LPS Reaffirms Safety as Top Priority
School safety is a priority issue for the Lawton Public School District's administrators, teachers, and staff at all levels of the Lawton Schools. Strong enforcement of school policies is maintained in all grades, including Lawton's elementary schools.
The Lawton Public Schools will continue to pursue a zero tolerance stance toward all violations of school policy relating to the following incidents or activities:
- Direct or indirect threats of physical violence
- Fights, assaults or physical altercations
- Possession of a weapon (including knives of all kinds)
- Possession, use, distribution, sale or being under the influence of any alcohol, controlled substances, illegal drugs, look-alike drugs, or drug paraphernalia.
All LPS students in violation will be subject to long-term suspension or assignment to an alternative school setting. Students may also be referred to law enforcement officials and/or the court system for violations of school policy relating to these activities.
This policy is in effect at all grade levels of the district's elementary and secondary schools.
Students, parents and patrons should be aware that district officials take a very serious approach to all incidents. It will be common policy for LPS administrator in all grade levels of the district to summon the police for student violations.
Parents should discuss provisions of the school's zero tolerance policy with their children. All LPS students should understand that any violation of conduct relating to physical conflict, threats, weapons, or drugs will have serious consequences.
